- The term "trip-hop" was supposedly first used in 1994 while describing the DJ Shadow single, "In/Flux". In Bristol, England around that time there appeared a number of artists mixing hip-hop with electronica beats. Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky - all originating from the Bristol scene.
